'S p u n' is funky track. Its groovy and bouncy and colourful.
I think the idea for the name of the song was inspired by the process of creating the artwork. I had this photograph of colourful pebbles on the beach. But I was thinking of this track and how I would express the flowing quality of it through an image.
The end result is above. I don't really know how I got there, but it does not really matter that much. Somehow the artwork resonated with me eventually and it stuck.
'S p u n' also has a bit of experimentation with sounds of brass, specifically, in this case some trumpets, trombones and saxophone. It was an exciting discovery that was inspired by some old friends of mine. We have music tastes that eventually lead us back to old school jazz funk sounds of the 70-80's.
For me to play with those sounds has been a lifelong dream. I find the groove, richness and movements of funk jazz absolutely inspiring. This song tries to capture some of the nuances of staccato funk guitar playing.
Of course, this is a more new funk-RnB sound and uses minimal arrangements of brass. Hopefully, a stepping stone to more experimentation and a seed for many more tracks.
Hope you enjoy listening to it! Stay groovy.
